MAGICKAL POTPOURRI

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Dried flowers: Try a florist for damaged or discarded petals and flowers or dry your own.
  • Essential oils: Buy essential oil from online pagan stores or create your own.
  • Dried herbs, seeds, bark, and leaves: Find small bags at a local metaphysical shop or make your own.
  • Fixative

If you will be harvesting your own herbs, flowers and leaves from a garden, use caution and handle them with care. A living plant that has been bruised or torn will lose essential oil quality. Collect seeds, herbs, roots, leaves and flowers early, right after the morning dew has dried away. Make sure the flowers and herbs have no disease, pesticides or pests attached to them, and they are clean from debris. Due to shrinkage, I recommend a harvest of 3-4 times the bulk of what you want the finished product to be.

Dry Your Flowers and Herbs

Spread out the freshly picked ingredients over a window screen to ensure air is delivered equally. Don’t stack or press the fresh flowers and other ingredients together. Choose a well-ventilated, dry, warm area for the flowers and herbs to dry over 1-2 weeks.Another method is hanging the stems of flower and herbs upside down. Bind the fresh-picked wild flowers in bunches and tie with cotton string, then allow to dry.

Home Protection Potpourri

  • 1 handful dried elder flowers
  • 4 tablespoons dried orris root
  • 1 handful chamomile flowers
  • 1 handful lavender
  • 1 handful marigold flowers
  • 6 drops Lavender essential/fragrance oil

Tips: Orris root is from the Florentine Iris and it preserves the natural fragrance of other flowers and herbs. There is a slight scent to Orris root, but the fixative will ensure a good base to potpourri. Add 2 tablespoons of dry orris root per cup of mix. Essential oils should equal 5-6 drops per cup of mix each. Leave the potpourri in the sealed container for a week and shake the container on occasion to mix the potpourri.

Store Potpourri

A tightly sealed glass container, or self-sealing plastic bags are ideal to retain the fragrance and power of the potpourri. Keep the container in a dry, cool place until needed.

A Protection Spell Bag For Sleep

Herbs & Flowers: A pinch of angelica, fennel, wolf’s bane, geranium, honeysuckle, lavender, and marigold. 1 drop sandlewood oil and 1 drop frankincense oil.

Correspondences: Add a copper trinket, a peacock feather, cone shell and mix potpourri together before adding to a spell bag. Keep the spell bag under your pillow at night to banish nightmares, evil spirits and any trouble from the outside world as you sleep.
